What is the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)?

The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), initiated in 2017, aims to facilitate the recruitment of foreign skilled workers and international graduates by employers in Atlantic Canada. This program enables firms in the Atlantic region, including Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island, to hire candidates without the need for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

How does the Atlantic Immigration Program work?

Employers designated by the province can participate in the AIP by offering valid job offers to suitable candidates who meet the job requirements. Once the offer is accepted, designated employers commit to supporting the candidate’s settlement in Atlantic Canada.

What are the sub-programs under the Atlantic Immigration Program?

The AIP comprises three sub-programs:

Atlantic High-Skilled Program
Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program
Atlantic International Graduate Program
Each sub-program has its own set of requirements, but they generally include a valid job offer in an Atlantic province, relevant skills, experience, education, language proficiency, and the intention to reside in the Atlantic province with the ability to settle with family in Canada.

How can employers address urgent hiring needs under the Atlantic Immigration Program?

Employers with urgent hiring needs can apply for a temporary work visa to expedite the recruitment process, provided the candidates meet specific eligibility requirements outlined by the program.

Employers designated by the province in Atlantic Canada can participate in the AIP.

Candidates may be eligible under more than one sub-program, but they can only initiate their application under one program.

The AIP enables employers in Atlantic Canada to recruit skilled workers and international graduates without the need for an LMIA, thereby addressing labor shortages and promoting economic growth in the region.

The processing time for AIP applications may vary depending on various factors, including the completeness of the application and the specific requirements of the chosen sub-program.
