Immigrate to Canada as a Self-Employed Cultural Worker or Athlete

Are you a self-employed cultural worker or athlete looking to immigrate to Canada and contribute to the country’s vibrant cultural and athletic scene? The Self-employed Persons Program might be the perfect fit for you!

Do you qualify?

This program is designed for self-employed individuals with experience in cultural activities or athletics listed under NOC groups 51 and 52. You must also demonstrate your intent to continue these activities and contribute to Canada’s cultural or athletic life.

What is the experience requirement?

You will need a minimum of two years of full-time experience in your chosen field within the last five years of applying. Additional experience can give you a competitive edge.

How will I support myself?

You’ll need to convince immigration officers that you can continue your cultural or athletic activities in a way that supports you financially and makes a positive economic contribution.

How do I show my intent to establish myself in Canada?

Business plans, partnerships, evidence of exploratory visits to Canada, and proof of sufficient funds to support your activities are all strong indicators of your intent.

The Self-employed Persons Program is open to individuals working in occupations listed under NOC groups 51 (Culture, Art, Sports, and Recreation) and 52 (Information, Culture and the Arts).

A minimum of two years of full-time experience in your cultural or athletic field within the last five years is required. More experience can significantly improve your chances of qualifying.

You will need to demonstrate a plan for how you will continue your cultural or athletic activities in a way that generates income and allows you to financially support yourself in Canada.

A well-developed business plan, evidence of partnerships with Canadian organizations, documentation of exploratory visits to Canada, and proof of sufficient financial resources to support your activities are all helpful in demonstrating your intent.
